Tereza Catarov at Spaacis Uncut: A Mesmerising Cultural Jazz Experience

Review

I recently had the pleasure of seeing Tereza Catarov perform live at Spaacis Uncut, and from the moment she took to the stage, I was completely captivated. The Romanian-born, London-based singer, pianist and composer delivered a performance that blended contemporary jazz with the rich cultural traditions of Eastern Europe.

During the evening, she performed several of her songs including Du-te Dor. Each piece carried its own character and emotion, drawing the audience into her unique musical world.

Dressed in a casual yet distinctive style, Tereza wore an ethnic Romanian scarf draped around her shoulders, creating a sporty and culturally inspired look that reflected her heritage. Her appearance complemented the music perfectly, adding another layer of authenticity to the performance.

As she sat at the piano and began to sing, the room seemed to fall silent. Her voice, musicianship and stage presence were absolutely mesmerising. There was a genuine sense of soul flowing through every note, deeply connected to her Romanian roots and cultural influences.

The atmosphere she created was unlike anything I have experienced before. At times, it felt as though you were no longer sitting in a London venue but had been transported to a Romanian family gathering on a warm sunny day, surrounded by music, celebration and community. Her ability to bring that feeling to life through jazz is a testament to her artistry.

Tereza Catarov is undoubtedly an artist to watch within the cultural jazz genre. She brings something fresh, authentic and deeply personal to every performance, successfully blending traditional Romanian and Bulgarian influences with contemporary jazz arrangements.

If there is one thing I can confidently say, it is that whatever expectations you arrive with, you will leave having thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Her performances are both musically impressive and emotionally engaging.

Looking Ahead

For anyone who missed her performance at Spaacis Uncut, there is another opportunity to experience her music live when she performs at Crazy Coqs on 25 June 2026 at 6:30pm. Based on what I witnessed, it promises to be an evening of outstanding musicianship and cultural storytelling through music.
